Founder and CEO of DHgate.com Diane Wang was named Chairwomen of the APEC Women’s Leadership Forum, in recognition of her strong advocacy for the empowerment of women, especially women’s entrepreneurship and women’s success in business.
As Chairwomen of the APEC Women’s Leadership Forum, Wang will lead all activities and events related to women across the APEC region.
Diane Wang formerly served as co-chair of the APEC Women’s Forum, and was recommended by previous Chair, Cher Wang, CEO of HTC, to fill her spot. Wang was nominated to serve as the Chairwomen by ABAC Chairman Juan Raffo, which was confirmed with an endorsement from the rest of the members of ABAC.
In June, Wang met with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg to start a dialogue on how Facebook and APEC could work together in order to empower more women to participate in the global digital economy. Wang continued this discussion with Facebook immediately after the meeting in Shenzhen, by meeting with Elizabeth Hernandez, Head of Public Policy in the Asia Pacific Region for Facebook.
Diane Wang, who has previously been named by Forbes as one of the most influential women in Asia, is a firm believer in the growing digital global economy and its ability to empower women to succeed in business, especially after observing rapid change in her home country of China which has been a quick adopter of technology where females account for nearly half of entrepreneurs. According to Wang, “the global digital economy is the perfect way to empower women to become entrepreneurs, especially through digital platforms like DHgate.com, where approximately half of our 1.4 million sellers are women.”
